Title:Educação sanitária e lepra / Health education and leprosy
Source:Rev. bras. Leprol;24(1-2):69-76, jan-jun.- 1956. .
Abstract:The author states that the importance of health education in the Service of Leprosy is recognized by all. It can be of good help fighting superstitions about this diseases; showing the scientific facts to the population; contributing for a better follow up of patients; calling contacts for examinations, etc. The most important fact in modern control of leprosy is the arrestment of incipient signs of the disease (undertermined leprosy) by sulphonetherapy. The health education in leprosy must be directed to this point so as to help in the discovery of new cases. The education of the patients, suspects and contacts can be done trough hospitals, dispensaries, health units, etc. The cooperation of the general practices, druggists, nurses, teachers, priests and other people who can be leaders in their group is very important. Those people have to receive special information on the problem. All kinds of media can be employed to inform people about leprosy (papers, magazines, posters, radio, television, movies, etc.). The negative aspects of the disease and the depressive facts must be avoided. The author states the health education program must be integrated in the routine of the Service and everyone must cooperate from the chief, down to the low ranked employee. He isists that the health education program for leprosy must be permanent so as to get positive results in a shorter time. (AU)^ien.

Title:Public communication campaigns in the destigmatization of leprosy; a comparative analysis of diffusion and participatory approaches. A case study in Gwalior, India ..-
Source:s.l; s.n; 1998. 18 p. tab.
Abstract:This was an experimental study designed to determine the relative effectiveness of diffusion and participatory strategies (in health campaigns) and the effect of caste on the dependent variables of knowledge, perception of risk, and behavioral involvement that were conceptualized as contributing to leprosy destigmatization in Madhya Pradesh state, India. The multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) procedure found significant difference between the communication treatments on the dependent variables. The discriminate analysis procedure was used to locate the source of the difference. Yhis procedure identified two significant discriminant functions; cognitive-affective and behavior-affective dimensions. The participatory treatment showed higher knoeledge and lower perception of risk on the cognitive-affective dimension, and higher behavioral involvement on the behavior-affective dimension, but the diffusion treatment showed only lower self-perception of risk on the behavior-affective dimension. The study concluded that participatory strategies promoting dialogue and interaction and incorporating people's knowlwdge and action component result in increased knowledge, lower percption of risk, higher bahavioral involvement, and, hence, destigmatization. Title:Health education ?-
Source:London; s.n; 1980. 5p p. .
Abstract:The importance of health education in the prevention of deformity and changing of attitudes has been emphasised. Education implies change. This is needed in three areas, and these are: 1- Change in the content of training for staff who are to plan and carry out health educational activities. 2- This will lead to a change in the concept of health education, an improvement in the skill of staff responsible for health education, and a greater emphasis on the denvelopment of comunication skills. 3- Improved health education may involve a change in clinic organisation and planning. The time allotted for health education activities is an important factor for the clinic worker and how much time is available for each patient will depend on the case load. Some health education activities are easy and take place unobtrusively and need little planning. More important changes are more difficult, and there is a danger of taking short cuts or rapid methods not based on sufficient thought and study. It has been shown that health education works if it is sufficiently adapted to the problem, to the people, and the circumstances in which they live(8). What we do not yet know is how to describe these crucial adaptations.

Title:Evaluation of an interactive instructional television program in Hansen's disease ..-
Source:s.l; s.n; 1980. 3 p. tab.
Abstract:The use of instructional television (ITV) is becoming increasingly common in developing continuing education programs in Hansen's disease (leprosy). This study attempted to determine if it is educationally advantageous to develop ITV material that incorporates an active learner response as compared with a conventional view-only format among a group of forty-seven profissional nurses employed at a public hospital. Results indicated a clear gain in the knowledge level of those nurses who actively assessed their own progress toward preestablished instructional goals. The study also reaffirms the need to conduct validation studies of mediabased instructional material in order to determine educational effectiveness (AU).

Title:Leprosy ..-
Source:s.l; s.n; 2004. 11 p. ilus, tab, graf.
Abstract:Leprosy remains an important health problem wordwide. The disease in caused by a chronic granulomatous infection of the skin and peripheral nerves with Mycobacterium leprae. The clinical range from tuberculoid to lepromatous leprosy is a result of variation in the cellular immune response to the mycobacterium. The resulting impairment of nerve fuinction causes be disabilities associated with leprosy. This review summarises recent advances in understanding of the biology of leprosy, clinical features of the disease, the current diagnostic criteria, and the new approaches to treatment of the infection and the immune-mediated complications. Supervesed multi-drug therapy (MDT) for fixed durations is highly effective for all forms of the disease. The widespread implemantation of MDT has been associated with a fall in the prevalence of the leprosy but as yet no reduction in the case-detection rate globally. Thus, leprosy control activities must be maintained for decades to interrupt transmission of infection (AU).

Title:Disability prevention and management in leprosy: a field experience ..-
Source:s.l; s.n; 2003. 6p p. .
Abstract:Bombay leprosy project has conducted operational research into cost effective ways of using therapeutic management for prevention of disabilities (POD). The goal of achieving this are broadly divided as 1)prevention of impairments and disabilities(POID) and 2)prevention of worsening of disabilities (POWD). About 33-56% of newly registered leprosy patients already have clinically detectable nerve function impairment (NFI), often no longer amenable to MDT. An analysis of 892 leprosy cases treated with WHO-MD stresses the need to focus attention on leprosy patients...AU.

Title:Educação conscientizadora na pratica do enfermeiro em hanseniase Consciousness education in leprosy nursing practice 2005-
Source:Ribeirão Preto; s.n; 2005. 144 p. ilus, tab.
Thesis:Present for Universidade de São Paulo. Escola de Enfermagem de Ribeirão Preto presented for the degree Doutor.
Source:Piracicaba; s.n; 1997. 175 p. ilus, tab, graf.
Thesis:Present for Universidade Metodista de Piracicaba presented for the degree Mestre.
